All-season tires for your car: What you need to consider

In addition, appointments for classic tire changes are no longer necessary. Whether an all-season tire is the ideal choice depends on your driving style. We explain here what you should pay attention to.

The use of all-weather tires suitable for summer and winter should be considered for low mileage of up to 10,000 km and predominantly urban mobility. This is particularly true in temperate climatic zones. For all other usage patterns, special winter and summer tires should be used with regard to mileage, road and weather conditions.

The lifespan of all-weather tires is on average 40,000 km and should then be changed.

How you can recognize all-season tires:

  • easily recognizable hybrid profile character
  • circumferential longitudinal grooves (typical characteristic of summer tires)
  • Tread block teeth (typical for winter tires)
  • several stable tread blocks
  • Profile less flat than summer tires
  • Tread less deep than winter tires
  • harder mixture of rubber material
  • M+S designation (Mud and Snow, denotes sufficient surface performance in mud and snow)
  • 3PMSF identifier (3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake, so-called Alpine symbol, mandatory from 10/2024)
